My work addresses issues of body image with a fibers hand. I highlight the stretch marks most people would rather be hidden and replicate the curves and rolls of the body and emphasize the texture of cellulite. By bringing out what is considered “bad” and making them into elements of style, I reaffirm that regardless of perceived flaws, the body is art. Like art, not all bodies are universally appreciated, and artists can be blind to the strength and value of their work because of how closely they work with it and are aware of their own flaws. Similarly, we struggle see the value in ourselves because we are all too aware of our flaws both great and small. I celebrate those flaws by bringing them to the foreground as the central elements of my compositions through embroidery and weaving.
